Attached is your 2012 PBAA dues invoice. Payment in full is due before March 30, 2012, although we are sending this now for those of you who wish to process this invoice in calendar 2011.
The good news is that 2011 has proved to be more upbeat and constructive than we had anticipated a year ago. We had tremendous response to the 2011 Retail Marketplace conference, with a huge attendance, great speakers and workshops, and very positive one on one meetings.
2012 Retail Marketplace planning is already underway- it will be held at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront from June 10-12 (Sun-Tues). This is a fabulous venue, which hosted the PBAA conventions in 2006 and 2008 and last year's Retail Marketplace with MPA. While still a $4B powerhouse at retail, our industry is at a crossroads. Retailers are concerned about declining sales and digital editions, wholesalers are concerned about margins and remaining viable, publishers are looking to end the newsstand slide while developing new markets through digital devices, and national distributors are concerned about all of the above.
PBAA's mission has always been to be "the voice of the newsstand industry," and in 2012 we plan to be leaders in addressing the concerns mentioned above. PBAA member meetings and seminars will showcase opportunities and best practices, as well as discussing the challenges we and our customers face in the current climate. Our new officers’ positions are aligned with the changing landscape of the newsstand industry to best communicate information on these topics to our membership and the retailer community at large. Your membership will be more valuable than ever.
So, please renew your commitment to PBAA and newsstand sales. We look forward to working with you again in 2012, and hope that you'll share your suggestions and thoughts on PBAA programs with us.
