American Association of Independent News Distributors

The American Association of Independent News Distributors is a trade association in which members get opportunities to purchase newspaper bonds and newsletters. There is an online list of conferences and upcoming events. Members can access e-mail lists of other members to share professional information.

American Copy Editors Society

ACES is an organization dedicated to improving the quality of journalism and the working lives of journalists. The site has "Words on Words," a page full of comments, tips, and headlines from journalism professors and editors. "Editors Ink" has online responses to a survey of copy editors at more than 100 newspapers. "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly" features big editorial flubs.

American Society of Journalists and Authors

This organization is for independent nonfiction writers. Members receive professional development opportunities, market information, networking opportunities with editors, and a publishing referral service. The site also links to conference and event information, and online writers' resources. ASJA also publishes the newsletter Contract Watch.

Audit Bureau of Circulation (ABC)

The ABC is a self-regulatory auditing organization responsible to advertisers, advertising agencies and the media they use. ABC verifies and disseminates circulation data and other marketable information. The Web site contains references guides that assist media planners and advertising sales representatives in analyzing circulation data.

Business Publications Audit of Circulations International (BPA)

BPA International is a provider of audited data for the marketing and media/information industries. The Web site has an interactive circulation report with an index of magazine topics, along with industry links and publicity violations listings.

Certified Audit of Circulations

This nonprofit organization offers circulation audits and research services for newspaper and magazine publishers, advertisers and advertising agencies. Browse through the site to learn everything about the audit process.

CMC - The Circulation Management Association of Canada

The CMC Circulation Management Association of Canada began in 1981 as a non-profit organization formed to provide professional development, promote fellowship within the circulation profession, and to raise the profile of circulation professionals by rewarding outstanding achievement.

Independent Press Association (IPA)

The Independent Press Association (IPA) works to promote and support independent publications committed to social justice and a free press.

Magazine Publishers of America (MPA)

MPA is the industry association for consumer magazines. They administer the Publishers Information Bureau, which tracks the amount and type of advertising carried by consumer magazines, as a well-known data source. MPA's affiliate organization is the American Society of Magazine Editors.

Media Credit Association

MCA is the magazine industry's primary source for credit information on advertising agencies. The site is affiliated with Magazine Publishers of America.

National Federation of Press Women

NFPW is an organization of women media professionals, including writers and editors from newspapers, magazines, television, radio, public relations, corporate publications, advertising, photographers, graphic designers, journalism educators and book publishers. The Web site has online version of the association's publication.

Society for News Design

SND is an international organization comprised of designers, graphic artists, editors, publishers, illustrators, art directors, photographers, advertising artists, Web site designers, students and faculty. Publications include Design, a quarterly magazine, and SND Update, a monthly newsletter. The Web site has a book browser, a store, events listing, a consultant finder and job bank for newspaper and magazine professionals.

Society of Professional Journalists

The Society of Professional Journalists is a large and broad-based journalism organization. Check the Web site for information about membership. Members get discounts on car rentals, overnight delivery services, and office products, and access to group insurance. There are plenty of professional perks for journalists.

Suburban Newspapers of America

This nonprofit association's Web site has industry news, classifieds, a membership directory, and articles from the bimonthly newsletter, "Subpub". Guests get read-only access to discussion forums. Members can take advantage of peer career counseling, a regularly updated research database, and a special professional forum.

Western Fullfillment Management Association, Inc.

Welcome to the Western Fulfillment Management Association's (WFMA) Web site. The WFMA is the West's largest nonprofit professional circulation association. Run by an all-volunteer Board of Directors, the WFMA serves as a focal point for the best and brightest minds in Western circulation marketing.

Women in Periodical Publishing (WIPP)
