MPA and PBAA Announce Combined Industry Retail Conference for 2010

New York, NY (December 9, 2009)—The Periodical & Book Association of America (PBAA) and Magazine Publishers of America (MPA) will co-host a joint magazine/book conference focusing on retail sales growth initiatives, it was announced today by both organizations.

The newly combined conference, called Retail Marketplace 2010, will be held June 28-30, 2010, at the Marriott Boston Copley Place Hotel. This annual meeting is open to all channel partners within the retail supply chain for publications, including publishers, consumer marketers, retailers, national distributors, wholesalers and industry service providers.

MPA and PBAA have traditionally held separate conferences that spotlight many topical retail issues as well as sales and merchandising opportunities for magazine and book publishers. PBAA’s 23rd annual conference was held June 8-10, 2009, at the Borgata Hotel in Atlantic City, NJ. MPA’s 2009 retail conference, co-sponsored by the International Periodical Distributors Association (IPDA) was held March 22-24, at the Doral Hotel, in Miami, FL

“MPA and PBAA, with input from IPDA, determined that we could serve the industry’s needs just as efficiently with one conference that leveraged the strengths and assets of each organization,” said Ken Godshall, Executive Vice President/Consumer Marketing, MPA.

“Collaborating with MPA on a sales-oriented, informative, actionable industry conference in 2010 is a welcome opportunity for PBAA” “said Lisa Scott, Executive Director, PBAA. “We encourage the input of our retail friends and partners, and the entire publications supply chain, in helping us design and deliver a compelling and successful event.”

Founded in 1965, Periodical & Book Association of America (PBAA) is a not-for-profit organization for publishers, distributors, wholesalers, retailers, consultants, and industry service providers. The PBAA mission is to build awareness, identify trends, educate, and bring positive reinforcement to the issues at hand while bringing the publishing community closer together. PBAA provides an open-style forum of communication and encourages its members to voice opinions and concerns regarding the single-copy industry.

Magazine Publishers of America (MPA) is the industry association for consumer magazines. Established in 1919, the MPA represents approximately 225 domestic publishing companies with more than 1,000 titles, nearly 50 international companies and more than 100 associate members. Staffed by magazine industry specialists, the MPA is headquartered in New York City, with an office of government affairs in Washington, DC.
